September 20 Intermediate Tuesday Talk
Journalism and the News
Course Start Date: 20 Sep 2016
live class
Class time: Tuesday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m. (Boston)
This course is for intermediate learners of English who wish to gain greater oral fluency and develop their writing skills at the paragraph level.
In this small conversation class, we will discuss journalism and the news. Do you prefer to watch, read, or listen to the news? What makes a good journalist? And more! Questions will be assigned before class. Each student will prepare a short response to their assigned question. In class, each student will give their answer, and then the rest of the group will be invited to respond. I will help keep the conversation going, and I will offer feedback and support as needed.
Note: Each Tuesday Talk is a separate event. The $24 enrollment fee gives you access to ONE live 60-minute class for the date listed.
After the live class, you may submit one paragraph to me by email. In your paragraph, you will express your view on a point covered in class. I will return your paragraph with comments and corrections.
The price of a private lesson or one-hour of editing is $70 USD. For this 1-hour class and the writing assignment, you pay only $24. Practice all your skills! Learn how to listen and respond to your classmates. Increase your confidence as you express your views. Learn how writing and speaking skills can develop together. Students can share their final paragraphs on a private discussion board, which allows further interaction in English. After class, all students will have access to the downloadable recording.

Teaching has been an important part of my life for twenty years. I have taught English as a foreign and second language since 1996. I began teaching English in Russia, and I presently live the U.S. I have been working online as an instructor and content creator since 2007. I also like to create materials to share with other teachers. My Pearson-sponsored blog won the 2010 EDDIE Award in the category of ESL Website Blog.
Students likely know me best as JenniferESL on YouTube. I am tremendously happy to have over four hundred thousand subscribers worldwide. In 2011 my channel was recognized in YouTube's "On the Rise" contest.
Since 2010, I have contributed more actively within professional circles. I have presented at the annual TESOL and MATSOL conventions in addition to giving professional development webinars. From March 2011 to March 2014, I served as a member of the TESOL Book Publications Committee. I remain an active member of the Materials Writers Interest Section.
I also have materials available offline. I have had the good fortune to be able to work with very skilled educators. I co-authored the Vocabulary Power series, contributed materials to New Password, and was on the writing team for Pearson’s hybrid series Next Generation Grammar, for which I also appear as the video Grammar Coach.
I am very excited to teach here on WizIQ, and I look forward to helping you reach your language goals.
